Palmer Fires Record-Tying Round at Colonial
Ryan Palmer matched the lowest opening round in tournament history, firing an 8-under 62 to take the 18-hole lead in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The $6.4 million PGA Tour event began Thursday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

First Round of LPGA Tournament in the Bahamas Washed Out
Because of what many called the biggest storm to hit the Bahamas in 20 years, Wednesday's pro-am and the opening round of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic on Thursday were canceled, reducing the $1.3 million event to 54 holes.

Garcia Continues to Back-Pedal on Comments about Woods
For the second time in two days, Sergio Garcia apologized for racially insensitive remarks he aimed at Tiger Woods. Now in Surrey, England, for the BMW PGA Championships, one of the European Tour's marquee events, the 33-year-old Spaniard drew international ire when he answered a question at a players' dinner Tuesday night about getting together with Woods at the U.S. Open by saying, "We'll have him 'round every night. We will serve fried chicken."

Players React to Ban
Several players responded positively to Tuesdayfs announcement that golffs ruling bodies - the USGA and R&A - will insert a new rule (14-1b) that prohibits the use of anchored putters on January 1, 2016. Among that group is Tiger Woods, Hale Irwin, Francesco Molinari, Graeme McDowell, Nicolas Colsaerts and others.

R&A Explains Anchored Putter Ban
In a separate announcement from that of the United States Golf Association, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club - golf's ruling body for areas not overseen by the USGA - discussed its support of the ban on anchored putters. The ban will go into effect January 1, 2016.

Woods a Fair Imitation of His Former Self

On the mound running along the nasty little 17th at the Players Championship, the fans drape over the slope like bees in swarm. They are nothing like that community institution at the 16th at the Phoenix Open, which prides itself on being beery, loud and obnoxious. The fans at TPC Sawgrass are a convivial group, and pretty much polite and respectful, the way the books say golf fans ought to be. And they are quite busy, chatting and handing something back and forth - money.
